Vietnamese: Ho Hoan Kiem, Hoan Kiem Lake or Lake of the Restored Sword rests in the heart of the old town of Hanoi. Near the middle of the lake is a small, 18th-century tower, named Thap Rua, or Tortoise Tower. Mythical tales tell of a 15th century King Le Thai To who was given a magic sword by a tortoise that lived in the lake. The King used the sword to drive the Chinese from the country, but later the tortoise is said to have snatched the sword from him and disappeared into the lake.
